Synthetic Biomaterials: Evolution in Odontology

The search for biomaterials accessible to dentistry professionals – with high performance and manufactured in Brazil – led FGM to invest in innovative technologies and develop smart biomaterials.

“The technical bioengineering knowledge of FGM’s Research & Development and Technical Consultancy teams stands out for the results they have achieved with the products developed and validated by the scientific community, through the bond that the group has established with renowned universities”, says the CTO of FGM, Friedrich Georg Mittelstädt. This is the case of Duosynt synthetic membrane and Nanosynt bone graft, both 100% synthetic products – without any animal-based material – which reinforces the safety and predictability of results.

According to FGM’s technical consultant, Dr. Rafael Cury Cecato, specialist in Periodontics, Master in Implantology and professor in the courses of Implantology and Dental Prosthesis/Implantology, both products are strictly in line with all national and international health requirements, “being continuously inspected, so that end users, dentists and patients, receive impeccable products in terms of quality and safety”.

Of synthetic origin, based on biphasic calcium phosphate, composed of 60% hydroxyapatite and 40% beta tricalcium phosphate. At the same time as the surgery, blood was collected from the patient in order to process the material in a centrifuge (400g for 12 minutes) and obtain fibrin membranes rich in platelets and leukocytes (L-PRF).

NANOSYNT BONE GRAFT

With ultraporous morphology and excellent osteoconductive action, Nanosynt bone graft stands out for having the best response time in bone formation in the regenerative market.

Its composition, 100% synthetic, reduces the risk of contamination and its nanostructured nature creates conditions for cell adhesion and osteoconduction, due to regular ultraporosity structure.

According to Dr. Rafael Cury Cecato, “such characteristics are already described and evidenced in the international scientific literature”. Another highlight of the product comes from its packaging, available in fractional form (2 or 4 ampoules of 0.27 cc), which results in minimal material waste.

According to Dr. Victor Wilian Dalle Tese, specialist in implantology, it offers the best cost-benefit ratio in the regenerative market.

DUOSYNT REGENERATIVE MEMBRANE

Intended for temporary support of Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) procedures, the Duosynt membrane, composed entirely of synthetic materials, provides safer and easier usability for the dentist and the patient, since it eliminates the need for a second surgery to remove it.

With a degradation time of 8 to 12 weeks, compatible with the period required for cell isolation during bone formation in the reconstruction site, the Duosynt resorbable synthetic membrane stands out among the existing options on the market.

“The clinical results associated with this product are impressive. They ratify the quality and competence that the brand makes available to professionals who perform reconstructive and regenerative techniques”, confirms Dr. Thiago Roberto Gemeli, specialist in Implantology. In addition to providing ideal conditions for its complete restoration, the membrane also promotes soft tissue reinforcement and separation and assists in the healing phases.

Another highlight is that Duosynt acts as a selective barrier by preventing migration of unwanted cells to the area to be preserved for regeneration, but it allows exchange of nutrients due to its high porosity. Available in sizes 2 x 2 cm and 4 x 4 cm, with a thickness of 300 µm, its packaging counts a triple safety system that offers easy and practical handling.

ABOUT FGM

FGM works hard so that people around the world can smile more and better, without fear of being happy. The company’s history began in 1996, with the development of the first genuinely Brazilian tooth whitener, now known worldwide: Whiteness Perfect.
